GOD
Before anything else, the gospel starts with God. He created you on purpose, not by accident. He made you, in His own image, to know Him, enjoy Him, and live under His good and loving rule. God is perfectly holy, perfectly just, and perfectly good. That means He doesn’t ignore evil, and He doesn’t overlook sin, because He cares about what is right.
This is where the story begins: you were made by God, and you were made for Him.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
-Genesis 1:27
MAN
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
-Romans 3:23
We’ve all turned away from God. Instead of trusting Him, we choose our own way. The Bible calls this sin. Rejecting God’s authority and living for ourselves. This isn’t just a mistake; it’s a broken relationship. A chasm between ourselves and the very One we were created to know.
Because God is just, sin has real consequences. We can’t undo it, outgrow it, or fix it on our own. Left to ourselves, we remain separated from Him.
That’s the hard truth: we need rescue, and we can’t rescue ourselves.
JESUS
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,”
-1 Peter 3:18
This is where the good news comes in. God didn’t leave us in our sin. He sent Jesus.
Jesus lived the life we were meant to live. He was perfectly obedient, perfectly righteous. Then He died on the cross, not for His sins, but for ours. He took the judgment we deserved so we could be forgiven. And three days later, He rose from the dead, defeating death, and bridging the chasm between God and us.
Because of Jesus, reconciliation with God is possible. Because of Jesus, there is hope.
RESPOND
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,”
-John 1:12
The Gospel isn’t just something to understand. It’s something to respond to. God invites you to turn from sin and surrender your life to Jesus. That means letting go of trying to save yourself and placing your faith completely in Him.
When you do, God forgives your sin, gives you new life, and brings you into a restored relationship with Him. You don’t earn it. You don’t clean yourself up first. You simply come to Him in repentance and faith.
